Earth Science

In Earth Science, students learn to view the Earth as an interactive system, rather than a series of parts. Beginning with a review of the scientific method, this course covers areas of study including the physical Earth, the oceans, the atmosphere, and Earth’s place in space. Students study visual representations of the Earth’s surface, including several different map types. Associated scientific investigations involve experimental design, graphing, and analysis of data, and these activities become more complex and long-term as students begin to understand the Earth's systems. Each course module includes interactive and review activities, scientific investigations, and assessments that are aligned to the Virginia Standards of Learning.
