French I

Based on the Virginia Standards of Learning, French I provides students with guided instruction as they explore this world language. This course focuses on seven content strands for a modern world language, emphasizing reading, writing, speaking, and comprehending the French language. These strands are:

  • Interpersonal Communication;
  • Interpretive Communication: Listening and Reading for Understanding;
  • Presentational Communication: Speaking and Writing;
  • Cultural Perspectives, Practices, and Products;
  • Making Connections through Language;
  • Linguistic and Cultural Comparisons; and
  • Interacting in School and Global Communities.

Additionally, students gain an understanding of French culture and Francophone countries from all over the world.
